Don't be so Cliche (Illustration assignment)

Picture
Purpose: To see the old and the obvious in new ways.
Assignment: Imagery seen too frequently is often not seen at all. This is the case with over used design symbols and everyday objects. Overuse renders them ineffective, and they lose their power to communicate. It is the function of the illustrator/designer/artist to revitalize these cliched symbols and objects by interpreting them in unique and personal ways.

Process: Choose a cliché from the list below and make at least 50 thumbnail sketches. Identify the three sketches you believe are your strongest and get individual feedback from the instructor. Consider this feedback and choose your strongest idea and design and create an illustration using the specs below.:
-the enemy is at the gate
-putting a bug is someone’s ear
-that’s his ticket out of here
-weak as a kitten
-eat humble pie
-fair-weather friend
-costs a pretty penny
-The light at the end of the tunnel
-I don’t give a rat’s ass.
-roar like a lion
-lie like a rug
-No good deed goes unpunished
-from cradle to grave
-to be at the end of one’s rope
-a fool and his money are soon parted
-as luck would have it
-preaching to the choir
